Newsletter - January 2010

It's a NEW YEAR!

It's hard to believe it's already January of 2010! As always, January is a time for reflection and making resolutions for the New Year. Many of us get the urge to reorganize our lives and careers, renovate our homes, and even reshape our bodies.

Resolving to improve ourselves is a good thing but we've got to take stock of who we are, what we have, and appreciate it. Being grateful for what we have is a good foundation for self-improvement.

We need to make realistic and achievable goals that are simple and specific and are tailored to our own lifestyle and personality. Having a goal of losing twenty pounds this year may not be achievable if we think only of the end result. On the other hand, if one makes the SIMPLER choice to lose approximately one pound a week by exercising twice a week and not eating after 8 pm, the goal may be more achievable AND more satisfying in the long run.

There are so many choices and options with our diet and fitness regimen, it can be overwhelming. The important thing is to find a way of eating and exercising that works for us and feels right, AND that contributes to our improved health and emotional well-being!

Our featured client

Photo of Joe on bikeThis month I would like to feature a very special, motivated, and inspiring client, Joe Benedict. Joe has been working out with me for several years now, and he has been an absolute pleasure. As you may know, Joe is of an advanced age but in spite of that, he lives life to the fullest, is ambitious, and has very specific fitness goals.

Joe is a veteran of World War II where he served as a fighter pilot and fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima. After the war, Joe spent most of his life as an educator, eventually becoming a principal and later a superintendent of schools. Joe has been retired since 1982 but still leads an active and interesting life. He and his lovely wife, Margaret reside here in Aptos. I'm so glad I've had the opportunity to know and work with him.

This year I am grateful for all my clients, my family, good health, and the chance to do work that I love. I hope you all have a very happy 2010!
